I Ate Squid Ink Rice...Week 17

Woah this week was crazy. God really blessed us this week. First off I ate squid ink rice. It was not good.

A couple of weeks ago we met a girl on the street and scheduled her. When she showed up to the church she had 2 other friends with her! It was amazing. So we taught them all. Then one of the friends liked to play basketball. so we invited her to our basketball night. She came and brought another friend with her. Her friend didn't want to play basketball so instead, we went inside and taught a lesson. So this one person multiplied into 4 people. God really blessed us with these girls. They are all so cute, and hopefully, we will have the opportunity to continue meeting with all of them.

Also last Sunday we had someone we met on the street come to church with her two daughters. We tried to schedule a time to meet with her in the week, but she said she was so busy. Her only free days was on Sunday. So we said okay we will see you next week. But then we ran into her 3 different times throughout the week. It was a miracle!! so then we were able to schedule her to meet just for like 20 min this next week at McDonald's. It was so amazing.

There was another time this week that we went to meet with a Chinese medicine doctor and teach him English. We always go to his office which is so weird. Chinese medicine is so weird. Then we just sit in the back of the doctor's office and eat lunch. But all around us is patients and people making medicine patches and stuff. Wow, I love being a missionary. You do some weird things.

This Sunday we had a member's son get baptized. She invited me and sister Johnson to bear our testimonies at the service. Whenever I get in front of people I get so nervous and forget everything I've ever learned...So I'm pretty sure I spoke with no tones, and no one could understand me....so I will have to work on talking in front of people hahah. Oh well.

This week Elder Freeman (one of our zone leaders) said something really cool that I liked. He was talking about the difference between hope and faith. That we have faith in Christ. We have faith in something or someone that is perfect. We don't have faith in imperfect things. We have hope in these imperfect things. I really liked that. Because sometimes I doubt things, and it's not like my faith is lacking....but it's that I need more hope. I don't know if that makes sense, but when I heard it, it made sense. And I really liked it.

Anyways thank you for all the prayers. Thanks for all the support. I am thankful for them. I hope you are all doing well. Love you all.

Service after the Typhoon -- Week 16

Woah this week was good. Okay so this week was super good. We were super busy each day. But one day we decided that we wanted to make fried rice for lunch. So we had 30 minutes and we did it....but in the process Sister Johnson burned her hand like 12 times, lit a dish towel on fire, dropped an egg on the floor....I cut my hand and spilled rice all over. It was pretty great.

This week we got the opportunity to do service after the typhoon. One day we went with a member to this area and helped clean up a homeschool place. It was so fun, and there were some cool people we got to talk to. We also helped clean up the church and the streets around the church. It was so good. I loved it.

Something super sad happened this week. We were at a members house, and brought a person we are teaching with us. After we ate we shared a message, and the spirit was so strong. Also the members were doing amazing. And then we were talking about how everything starts with a desire to learn more. We then asked her (the lady we are teaching) if she had a desire to learn more. She said No. So that was super sad. It shows that people have agency.

Also this week the Elders asked us if we could cover their Kids English class. We said sure, and so we went to go to the place where they have it. But you need a paper to get in. But we had a problem. They hid it under a bush because the week before they had to get someone else to cover, and that's how they gave them the paper.....but then there was a typhoon. So sister Johnson went and climbed inside the flower bed thing looking for this paper....we never found it. But it was pretty funny. Hopefully, this story made sense.

But this week was really good. We met this family a couple weeks ago, and invited them to church. But then there was a typhoon so the church was cancelled. So we just prayed that they would come the next week. And they did! But the week leading up to it we prayed about who would be a good fellow shipper for her, and Sister Johnson and I thought of the same family. So we called them and visited them and told them a little about our new friend, and daughters who would hopefully would come to church. And then they did come. And this family was perfect for them. And our new friends love the church. It was seriously so amazing!

I love being here and being a missionary. Sometimes things are hard, but there is always good things in every day. Sometimes when we are walking back to our apartment at night we just talk about how much we love Hong Kong, and that it's unreal that we live here. That every day we get to share about Jesus Christ. That we are just so happy to be here doing this work.

I hope you are all doing well. Hope you all had a great week. Thank you for all the prayers they are much appreciated. Keep praying for the people of Hong Kong. Love you all.

Typhoon--Church got cancelled --Week 15

This week has been crazy. All week people were talking about this crazy typhoon that was supposed to come. That we needed to buy food and tape our windows and make sure we were safe. So we bought milk, peanut butter, and noodles. I was not convinced that it was coming...and then church got cancelled. So I guess then I had to believe it was coming.

Anyway, we got locked in our apartment for 2 days. So we literally whatsapped everyone in our phone a scripture and said we hope they are doing well. Also luckily we saved weekly planning so we did that. We also made brownies and took them to our neighbors. And then on P day we just deep cleaned our apartment...which didn't take too long because it's tiny. But as soon as we were allowed to leave we had so much energy so we just were cleaning up branches and stuff and just laughing. It was so much fun.

This week I went on exchanges twice with Sister Law. Our comps are both STLs, so whenever they have leadership meetings, or go on exchanges with other sisters we go together. It's always very interesting. We taught a member. She is super old and super cute. It was really hard to communicate and understand what she was saying, but we could just feel the spirit. We felt like we were guided and with the spirit, we could understand. She was seriously the cutest lady. It was such a good experience. But also while we were together I got told my Chinese was bad like 12 different times...so that was super encouraging lol. But it's okay because we found the cutest family...but they were Mandarin. so we just spoke English. But hey it worked out. Now the Mandarin sisters are meeting with them.

Also this week we had Mission Tour. It was super good. I learned so much! Sister Johnson and I discussed after, and we learned that we need to change the way we do a lot of things, and we can be more productive with our time. So that should be good. We planned lots of things we can do during our weekly planning during our lockdown hahah.

But really. I love it here. It is so good. Sister Johnson is such a good companion. We get along so well. She is so helpful and a super good translator lol.

Sorry my emails are always super random. I hope you all are doing well. Thanks for all the prayers. We are safe, and thankful for you all! praying for you all.

Typhoon in Hong Kong! --Week 15

Don't worry we are not dead. The biggest typhoon in like 20 years hit yesterday. But we were locked away in our tiny apartment all day. we will be confined here today also. so we will have more time to email later this week.

we are safe. If you would like to tell me or send pics of what has happened in Hong Kong I wouldn't be sad. I love you all. Tell everyone I love and miss them.

Hopefully will have time to talk to you later this week.

Love you mom.

I Should Be Miss Universe -- Week 14

Well this week was super interesting. Every day we were so busy....at least that's what our plans told us. Then literally every day everything fell through hahah. But it's okay because God takes care of his missionaries. We met some of the coolest people and had some cool experiences. When it was day 3 of everything falling through we were walking back towards our apartment, and we met the coolest family. The mom reminded me of a Utah mom. We talked to them for like an hour just on the street. And then instead of asking for their number, they asked for ours! It was so cool. It was such a blessing to meet them.

Also this week we met with this man named M---. At first he seemed to have so much potential....so then we met again with him. This time he didn't listen. He just kept telling Sister Johnson and I we were so pretty. He told me I should do pageants and that

I should be Miss Universe. It was so funny....but we told the elders they might have more success with him. So hopefully he will come to english class and then they can meet him there.

At exercise one morning there was a centipede on the ground...I asked sister Johnson what she would give me if I ate it. She said she would buy me lunch. So I ate it. It was so funny. I got free lunch out of it.

Also this week we met with a less active. She thinks when people cough at her that they don't like her...So we can't cough or clear our throats otherwise she thinks we hate her. It is a very interesting dynamic. It made me realize more how real mental illness is. How hard it is, and made me so grateful for what the Lord has blessed me with. I know that everyone struggles with different things. But they are all for the benefit of us. God doesn't give us anything we can't handle.

I am so thankful to be here. Thank you all for your prayers. I hope you are all doing well.

Raining non-stop --Week 13

I have never used an umbrella in my life until I arrived in Hong Kong. This week it pretty much rained non stop. Also so many people here hate the rain...so lots of people didn't want to meet. It was pretty funny. But there was one time when it was just poring and we were out finding. There was like this 10-foot gap between the MTR station and another place that was covered, and so many people just stood and looked because they didn't want to walk in the rain. It was literally only 10 feet or less. So sister Johnson and I started asking people if they had an umbrella and if they wanted to walk together under our umbrellas. It was so funny. Then they had to listen to us for like 15 seconds.

Yesterday we met with the Chan Family. It was a really cool experience. One of their daughters had a question about Joseph Smith, so Sister Johnson and I taught her the Restoration. Then we taught the parents about the Godhead. It was a really interesting dynamic, but also such a cool experience.

Also yesterday I had to bear my testimony in both of our wards...I guess it's just making up for before my mission when I never bore my testimony in church hahah.

Also, this week as we were coming home from A dinner appointment I was just thinking about how Cass and I are in two very different Countries doing the exact same thing. It made me so happy. I know she is working so hard, and I was just so happy thinking about this gospel. How it's the same everywhere. How so many people sacrifice so much to go and share because they know it's true. Because they want others to feel that same happiness that they've felt. To help people come to know their Savior Jesus Christ. To understand His sacrifice, and through Him is how we have that happiness. How we have that joy. I just love this so much.

I'm so thankful for my companion. She is so helpful and always so positive. She really is an answer to prayers.

Sorry if none of this all makes sense. I hope you're all doing well. Thank you for all the prayers. They are really appreciated. Love you all.
