I ATE SQUID -- Week 12

Okay so this week has been so fast and so good. The only weird thing I ate was squid...but I guess that's probably not that weird. I've just never had it.

On Saturday I was on exchanges with Sister Law...That was a fun experience lol. We both just got here and our companions are STLs so they had to go on exchanges. But luckily we had the summer missionary with us so she could help finish all the conversations I couldn't hahah. We also taught a lesson to a recent convert about faith. I was thankful she was already baptized hahah. Oh also when I was trying to talk to some girl on the street, these random men came up and started talking to her too. I couldn't understand anything except that they told her our Church mind controls people, and not to listen to us. So that was a fun experience. She was still super nice and respected us. It was a really weird experience.

Also for language study we always start by reading the Book of Mormon to work on sounds and tones. It's so funny because I'm not great at them. my comp and our summer missionary always laugh when I try to say a word and say it wrong over and over. It's so funny. I'm glad we can all delight in my struggles.

Something so cool happened this week. We were ahead of schedule one day, and had like 15 minutes before our next thing we had to do, so we decided to go out finding. We walked towards the MTR, and stopped this man from russia. He was so cool, and we talked to him for a while (we had to run to the church to be on time for English class). But we scheduled him for Sunday. We were going to teach him cantonese. So Sunday came around and we gave him a chapel tour and when we got the the chapel he asked so many questions. So we did our best to answer, and then lead him to a class room. I looked at Sister Johnson and we both had the same idea. She said "we're teaching the restoration." So instead of teaching Cantonese we taught the restoration in English. It was so cool. He had so much Christian background. I feel like it's the perfect time in his life to learn about the Church, and it was just so cool. We scheduled him again for Thursday, and we will turn him over to the English Elders.

Also we have an area where we can knock doors! So Monday night we went and knocked on doors. It was really weird and everyone just said they didn't need our message or want to get to know us lol. But it was a really cool experience, and we met the sweetest lady. We talked to her and taught a little about the Plan of Salvation. She was so cute. We tried to schedule her, but she says she's busy. We shall try again this week.

One time this week on the MTR I was sitting by this guy. I tried to start a conversation and tell him I liked his shirt. I couldn't get the tones right so he was so confused for like 2 minutes. It was so funny. I just kept trying and finally once I got it I had to get off. It was pretty funny. And I also tried to talk to this lady on the MTR. I told her I just came to Hong Kong, so she just started speaking english and talking about the weather. It was so funny. But the language is coming...slowly but it is coming.

sorry my emails are always all over the place. I am so thankful for the opportunity I have to be here in Hong Kong serving the Lord. Each and everyday I see God's hand in my life. I know that he looks out for his missionaries. He loves them no matter where they are.

Something I read and love this week was about our progress. How God knows the little steps we take each and everyday, and is thankful and proud of our successes. No matter how small they are, He is proud of you, and will recognize them. He loves each and every one of his children.

Thank you for all of the prayers. I hope each and everyone of you is doing well. Hope you have a great week.

God Really Does Guide Us -- Week 11

Wow this week has been crazy. First I've eaten a rotten egg (sorry dad, I know you told me not to eat it hahah but when they just give it to you you can't really not), cow stomach, and octopus. I guess that this isn't that weird of food but weird to me hahah.

This week has been super good. We have taught some great lessons with some amazing members. The members here are literally amazing. Whenever we teach with them they are so helpful. They can explain the doctrine and principles really well and help answer their questions.

We have had a summer missionary with us the past week. So she will be with us through this next week too. She is really helpful, and always wants to help hahha. One day when we were doing language study I was trying to say "Fold arms" but I said it wrong and she thought I was speaking english and said "kill myself." She's been laughing at it the past three days.

But seriously she is amazing. Because of her we had 2 returning members come to sacrament because they're all friends. It was so cute.

Also this week we had an amazing experience where I know our footsteps were guided by God. One day we got behind in our schedule by like 40 min...which is fine, but we were doing some language study with a returning member who isn't interested really in coming to church....but randomly a lady from mainland came in looking to buy a bible. We said we could give her a book of mormon for free. She was curious and we gave her a fast tour and then taught the restoration. We then gave her the mission office address where she could go get a bible because we were out. So that was random, and I feel like that was us being guided, then we went to take all our stuff back to our apartment because we had to move out for a couple days, but that's a different story.

Anyway we couldn't stay because the people weren't done so we thought to go to starbucks to finish comp study. On the way we ran into a girl named K---. Later I found out she was being taught and all of a sudden disappeared. She was progressing really well, and they gave her the parent permission slip to be baptized, but then they never heard from her again, and they couldn't contact her. They figured her parents didn't want her to be baptized....turns out she lost her phone. She didn't save the number and didn't know how to get back in contact with the missionaries. So now we are teaching her once again. I also feel like our footsteps were guided to find her. It was a miracle.

Oh also so our shower was leaking into the apartment below us so we had to get a new shower...so President Phillips didn't want us there while random men were in our apartment all day so we moved to Sha Tin for 2 nights. So that was interesting. I slept on the floor with sister Schade. On our MTR rides back and forth we met a lot of people from mainland. So that was really cool, but also really hard because there isn't that much we can do for them....but if they're interested we will give them a pamphlet or book of mormon if we have one in simplified characters.

Sorry this is all over the place.

I am thankful for all your prayers. They are much appreciated. I am thankful for all you. I hope you all are well.

HONG KONG -- Week 10

I finally made it to Hong Kong! the first thing I noticed when we walked off the plane was how hot it is hahah. But after a week it's not as bad as I expected...maybe because everyone told me that it would be so hot.
Amazing sites in Hong Kong

Wednesday morning we went with the APs to get our IDs, and it's like the DMV. It took forever. But it was an interesting experience. And then when we returned back to where we were staying we had lunch. A branch from mainland china was there. They made really spicy food for us to eat hahah. But it was good. We also had pizza...so something American hahah. And then Wednesday night we went to the peak. It's the highest point in Hong Kong and where they dedicated Hong Kong as a mission. It was amazing and so pretty. We saw the city light up at night...also the ferry ride there was so cool too.
My new companion Sister Johnson

The next day I got my trainer. Her name is Sister Johnson. She is from Nevada and super nice. I like her a lot. She is really helpful.

I am in the Tai Po/Tai Wo area. The members are super nice, and super helpful. On Sunday in the Tai Po ward I was asked to bear my testimony....So it was super short and simple, and probably used all the wrong tones but it was good. And in that ward there was the cutest deaf sister. She gave a talk, and I didn't understand anything but I could feel the spirt. And it was the coolest thing. My companion some how told her we want to learn a little, so this week I think we will meet with her to learn. So that should be interesting.

One of the weirder things I did this week was go to a Kung Fu Master's medical place. And they fed us in the back. And right next to us they were casting a broken arm. It was really strange. And then after we ate we went up to the attic to teach his apprentice English. It was so funny tying to teach the "V" sound. They say W. So instead of video they will say wideo its so funny. And then when we tried to teach the TH sound they just say the F sound. hahah. It's very interesting. Then we taught a short message about the Godhead and then the plan of salvation a little because he believes in reincarnation...I didn't understand anything, but I could tell him that I knew that God loved him and knew him.

Today we got a summer missionary! She's super cute. So she will go around with us for the next 2 weeks...so hopefully this will help me improve my Cantonese a lot.

Oh one more thing...everything is hot. The only cold thing I eat is cereal in the morning. They even have boiling water at dinner. It's so weird.
I truly am so grateful for the opportunity I have to be here in Hong Kong. There are some of the nicest people here ever.

Today we went shopping. I just followed my comp around and had no idea where we were. Usually I'm decent at directions, but here I get so lost lol. Next we will go to 10,000 Buddhas next today, so that will be interesting and fun.

Also sorry this email is all over the place.

I'm thankful for all of your prayers. I hope you all have a great week and look for opportunities to serve others. Love you all.
